Ceiling Fan Extension Chain and Pull Chain Switch
When your ceiling fan doesn’t quite reach the right height anymore, and you have to run a lot of electrical wiring around in order to complete the job, you can use ceiling fan extension chains to lift the fan up a bit. This is useful if your fan isn’t functioning properly for any reason, and you want it to be as high as possible. One common problem is that the motor is simply too tall, which means that the chain doesn’t actually reach the fan, or it doesn’t have enough wire to go around the fan and to complete the wiring task. You can simply run new wiring through the chain to make it run correctly, and it’s a relatively easy fix.
Sometimes, though, the motor is too tall, and you need to run new wiring through the chain. This is a more complicated situation, because you have to get the chain to the fan, which is difficult, if not impossible, to do manually. One solution that some people use is to simply purchase a longer extension cord, which will allow the fan to run at a higher height. There are also many ceiling fan pull chain switch kits that you can buy, which can help as well. The advantage of these ceiling fan pull chain switch kits is that the wires can actually be run through the chain, which eliminates a lot of extra work. However, these ceiling fan pull chain switch kits cost more than ceiling fan extension chains, and they are often not as durable.
If you don’t want to spend the money on an extension cord, you can simply use ceiling fan pull chain switches. These are relatively simple to install, and they will give you a much higher height to the fan, which will improve its functionality. You can use a basic 2 wire design or you can choose to use a 3 speed ceiling fan switch, which is a little bit trickier. When using a 3 speed ceiling fan switch, you will need to have a set of pull chain wires, which goes from one to the other of the ceiling fan blades. If you want to make the switch easier to install, then you can choose to go with a basic 2 wire design, which is easily installed with screws or simple zip ties.
