How to Give an Old Ceiling Fan a Fresh Look

Ceiling fans can be a useful tool in any room, especially during the summer when you want cool air to flow down and circulate throughout the space. But if you have an old ceiling fan in your rental that’s starting to look dated or you want to add a more modern ceiling fan, it can be quite expensive to purchase one.

Luckily, there are a few things you can do to make your old ceiling fan look like new. From changing out the light fixtures to painting the metal body, there’s lots you can do!

Before you start, turn off the electricity to the area you’re working on (make sure to flip the switch at the breaker box) and then prep your workspace. Lay out some drop cloths or old sheets in a well-ventilated area and use painter’s tape to cover areas you don’t want to get paint on, such as the blades. Set your fan blades on some plastic containers or triangle painter holders to help you easily get to them.

After removing your fan blades, you can paint them your desired color or even use a wood stain for a more natural look. Just be sure to let them dry completely and then seal if needed. Lastly, dust them regularly to keep them looking nice and clean. For the best results, try to do this weekly to prevent dust build-up. You can also purchase a special duster with an elongated pole to make it easier to reach the blades without needing to use a ladder.
